How much coffee do you drink on a daily basis?

If you answer was ‘one or two cups’, congratulations! Your brain cells will be forever grateful by the time you reach your 70s.

That at least was the conclusion of a group of scientists who have run a study on 1,445 Italian men between the ages of 65 and 84 over the last 4 years.

Based on their findings, we now know that seniors who drank one to two cups of coffee a day during their adulthood are most likely to show lower levels of  mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in their old age.

Much lower indeed than those who didn’t drink coffee on a regular basis during their adulthood or ­– more interestingly – than those who have started drinking coffee in their sixties.

This study seems to reinforce the theory that coffee might help fight degenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer’s. Remember: only one to two cups a day. The main secret lies, as with many aspects in life, in not overdoing anything that we love too much.
